Rumour: Cumberbatch to play the Master in Doctor Who

It’s good that Benedict Cumberbatch never played the Doctor. The Master however…

Did you want him to play the Doctor? 
I don’t know… being the Master is one thing, but being the lead actor in the series is another. I have this feeling he wouldn’t be as convincing as the Doctor because he is, and always will be, Sherlock, for us!  

Initially when there were rumours that he might play the Doctor I thought it was a good idea. But I’m not so sure now. It’s not a question of would he play it well, because he’s already proved in various roles that he’s a sterling actor. I’m not really sure why I wouldn’t want him to play the Doctor, it just doesn’t seem to sit right in my head. 

Having said that I think the role of the Master is a role that would suit him a bit better. It’s fluid, there’s not a lot of commitment, you don’t become as much as an icon. 

He’s already become such an icon in Sherlock but I think what works with him is that he’s so dedicated to acting. Since Sherlock he’s taken up small roles in big films and it shows that he’s not just grabbing at lead roles now he’s in the public eye. 

I don’t know. I’m rambling.
